THE OLYMPIC TORCH arrived in Chideock this afternoon (12th July). Despite the pouring rain hundreds of people turned out to welcome the Olympic Runners to Chideock! Children from Symondsbury & Charmouth Schools lined the route waving Union Jacks and having a great time. Residents and holidaymakers held their umbrellas aloft and ‘cheered’ the convoy and gave huge support to the runners. Considering the weather it was a great ‘turn out’ and showed the best of the ‘british spirit’! The refreshments in the marquee did a good trade and many people were glad of a nice hot ‘cup of tea’ and home made cakes. Many thanks to the Fete Committee who were the main organisers and the other Groups who made this a spectacular if ‘very wet’ event such a huge success.
