Traffic management during construction of the new Miles Cross Roundabout
Work is now underway to construct the new Miles Cross Roundabout, which will support access to the Foundry Lea development and deliver a safer, higher-capacity junction that supports long-term traffic efficiency.
To allow these works to be carried out safely, a traffic management plan will be in place throughout the construction period. This will include temporary traffic lights, lane narrowing, overnight closures and some temporary restrictions on turning movements between the A35 and West Road. A 30mph speed restriction will remain in place throughout the works.
The next stages of traffic management include:
- Phase one: Three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place during off-peak overnight hours from 18 to 29 May.
- Phase two: One overnight closure will be required on 30 May, followed by three-way temporary traffic lights during off-peak overnight hours from 1 to 10 June.
- Phase three: This phase is expected to last around 15 weeks. During this time, both eastbound and westbound lanes on the A35 will be narrowed. Right turns will also be restricted, meaning vehicles will not be able to turn right from the A35 onto West Road, or from West Road onto the A35.
What to expect in the next stages of work:
- Intermediate works before phase four: Before the next phase begins, there will be no access between the A35 and West Road in either direction for around two weeks. Some weekend working may be required during this period. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A35, East Road Roundabout and the B3162.
- Future phases: As construction progresses, lanes on the newly constructed roundabout will be narrowed. Left-in and left-out movements from West Road will be permitted, but right turns to and from the A35 and West Road will remain restricted.
We will continue to keep residents and road users updated as each stage of the works progresses.
