The St. Giles bells are back! I am sure everyone has loved hearing them ‘ring out’ over Chideock in the last week. Work has gone at a fast pace over the last month and they have gone from a basic frame to 6 bells ready to ring! Andrew Ogden the professional Bell Hanger from Taylor & Co. has worked long and hard, organised the volunteers well and everything went up into the tower in the right order ready to hand
over to Dave Symonds and himself to fit (this is no mean feat). The brand new Queen Elizabeth II bell has arrived with many photos taken to celebrate the occasion. (see photo) The bells rang for the first time on Thursday 5th July with normal ringing times from then on i.e practice on Thursday Evenings and Sunday 10.30-11.00 a.m. The village clock will have it’s protective cover taken off this week with Smiths of Derby booked to service and start it up ready for the bell ringers to ‘wind up’ every week as before. Dave Symonds has asked me to convey his following personal message “I would like to give a very big ‘thank you’ to all those who have helped me over the last two years to achieve a new ring of bells”.
