Please join us for the COMMEMORATION OF THE ‘100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY’
OF THE GREAT WAR – a History Project in Chideock Village Hall entitled ‘Chideock in the Wars’. Friday 12th September at 2pm to be repeated at 5pm. Start by browsing the Exhibition which will take you through WW1 and WW2 with details and photographs of the brave men of Chideock who are remembered on the Chideock War Memorial. Take a look at photographs, war posters, memorabilia, books, history, medals, the Chideock Egg lady letters and much more accompanied by stirring war songs of the day. A rolling picture show will bring the past back to life featuring wonderful old photographs. At 3pm there will be an informative Power Point presentation by Colin Foot who is a decendant of the Squire family who resided at Glendale in North Road. This will give the history of the three brothers who went off to fight in WW1 with sadly only two returning home. We will then break for a home baked war themed tea – Anzac biscuits being a speciality of the time. Upon returning to your seats the play of ‘The Chideock Egg Lady’ will commence. This was written by local resident Frances Colville and the actors are from the Chideock Players. The story of Chrissie Squires has been featured recently on BBC Spotlight News, Radio Solent and The Dorset Magazine. We hope to show the Spotlight programme for those who missed it. Our ‘Chideock Egg Lady’ has become quite famous! We will then have a short Remembrance when the names will be read out of those men who died whilst serving their country and never returned home to Chideock. This will be an opportunity to pay our respects and to commemorate the 100 year anniversary. The above will then be repeated but in reverse order. Admission is free. This exhibition will be a wonderful opportunity to look at and feel how life was in Chideock a century ago. Thank you to the Chideock Trust for their
