CHIDEOCK SOCIETY EXHIBITION

IMG_4160

Last weekend The Chideock Society Exhibition featuring their large collection of film, photos, recordings and information, gathered over 25 years of activities and occasions, was truly superb. It was a wonderful opportunity to re-live great events and also to share memories of some of those villagers who are no longer with us. A steady stream of visitors from as far afield as Australia and Holland, nearby Exeter and Salisbury joined in the experience with Chideock locals and many from nearby villages. The exhibition was opened by Mrs. Pat Hussey, who at 95 is the oldest Chideock resident and was one of the founder members who participated in the production of The Parish Map. Many visitors bought along photographs from their collections and one of particular interest was a the Design and Plans for the unique Mortuary Chapel Gates which was bought in by a Mr. Scadding from Salwayash who is the great grandson of the Blacksmith/Farrier who designed them in the 1800’s. The second showing of the 1940’s film narrated by Prof. Denys Brunsden was very popular with over 100 people attending. Many people purchased copies of this DVD along with other DVD’s available showing ‘Postcards from Seatown’ and other events such as the VE and VJ Day Celebrations. CD’s of recordings of the memories of the older villagers needed when preparing for the publication of the book ‘A Wander Through Chideock’ were also available on Audio. The Committee and ‘willing friends’ supplied a vast array of superb refreshments. I am sure all the villagers would like to join me in thanking the Committee for their hard work in organising this exceptional exhibition.
