I have my Parish Councillor hat on! Good news – The roadworks/traffic lights at Broadmead scheduled for next week, i.e. ending on 28th August have been cancelled until further notice. This is in part due to continuous efforts by Chideock Parish Council in pointing out the problems it is causing to our village and in part due to the Melplash Show which attracts over 20,000 visitors. They appear to have seen a little sense at last! Another problem the CPC have been dealing with is in regard to necessary works on Chideock Bridge. We were contacted by Balfour Beaty (managers of the A35 at present) back in June suggesting a date for these works in mid August. This will also involve a traffic light system and the use of two parking spaces in the village car park. After much discussion, persuasion and dogged perseverance by our new Clerk Tom Faulkner the work has now been re scheduled for 14th September. Whilst this will never be ideal these works are needed both to protect the bridge and alleviate flooding issues. Hopefully, the holiday traffic will have decreased by then and these never ending traffic problems accessing our village will be a lot less. Whilst we do not have a Parish Council Meeting in August please be assured we are working hard on all these issues. The next Chideock Parish Council Meeting will be on 29th September at 7.00pm in the village hall. A Flood Meeting has also been arranged for wednesday 23rd September at 7.00pm in the village hall. Whilst our glorious summer has meant a hosepipe ban – I am sure flood issues will raise their ugly head again and so we must not be lulled into a false sense of security. Lyn Crisp. Chideock Parish Councillor.
