Dear Chideock Villagers
Do you like having a church in the village? Do you enjoy knowing the fascinating history of St Giles Church and thinking of all the stories those ancient stones could tell? How good it is to know we have such a wonderful venue for our Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals.
But have you any idea of the day to day running costs of our Grade 1 listed building?
There’s the insurance which is nearly £3,000 per year
The utilities bill which comes to about £2,000 per year
The cost of having the grass cut in the Cemetery £650.00 per year
The cost of having the grass cut in the Churchyard about £450.00
Then there are the repairs to the fabric of the church. The five yearly architect’s inspection report on the building dictates the obligatory repairs, like replacing broken tiles, repairing the mullion windows and securing the grotesques on the bell tower and clearing gutters and repainting rain water goods to name just a few.
All this has to be paid for by our congregation. This does not include the money we have to pay the Salisbury Diocese to pay for our clergy.
During the time of Covid we have been unable to hold our popular quiz nights or other fund raising events. This has left us short of funds. If you would like to help us to preserve this beautiful church, please consider giving a contribution by
