Additional information from Balfour Beatty on the impending A35 closure 23rd Sept – 5th Oct:
Residents should be aware that the road will be legally closed during the times listed above, and access should be considered to be by exception rather than as a norm.
Access to properties through the closed section will be provided, although this may entail using the diversion route and entering the closed section from the opposite end than would normally be the case.
Any people allowed to enter the closed section must appreciate that they are likely to encounter the workforce in the road and should proceed appropriately. There will be gatemen in position to facilitate such entry, but they will not know everyone wanting to access the closure in person, or where they may wish to get to.
Gatemen will be able to advise whereabouts the road is “physically” closed so that residents wanting access can decide whether they are able to reach their destination through the closure, or whether they will need to use the diversion route.
Sections of the network that works will be undertaken are;
River Yarty to Abbey Gate Junction
Greenway Head to Charmouth Roundabout
Morcombelake to end of Chideock Village (she doesn’t say which end, but I infer it’s the eastern end)
Kingston Russell Dips (not until November 24)
When working in Morcombelake there will be soft closures. Access will be from Charmouth Roundabout with caution due to slow moving vehicle undertaken surveying works.
When working in Chideock Village (retexturing works) access to Morcombelake from Crown Roundabout will be via the diversion route to the B3165. If coming from Axminster to Chideock then an escort will be provided when you approach the hard stop.
I hope this means that despite the get-out clauses, we won’t be marooned and unable to get home of an evening if we dare to go out.
